The Beginning of the Turning Point

Welcome to the January 2023 newsletter, and here are some highlights of manifestations of planetary patterns for December. They are fewer in number this month as I am increasingly tuning out of the mainstream world.

However, I post these as it is insightful and educational for us to see how astrology is constantly manifesting in the world in many different ways, weaving a tapestry with its constantly changing symbolism over time. Ultimately I hope this will serve as a historical record.

December 2022 Review

December 9th: Huge explosion from the Sun: see link. Our Sun is becoming much more active as it enters Solar Cycle 25, and with the drop in the Sun’s and Earth’s magnetic shields we are much more open to this energy. It does bring with it new information from distant parts of the galaxy that we assimilate, and this process also is part of our evolution. Even though we may be experiencing physical symptoms as we ascend at dizzying speeds, try to be grateful that we are here right now on Earth experiencing this.

December 10th: This is a very exciting development as scientists have produced a breakthrough in understanding nuclear fusion that paves the way for clean, free energy for us, so in line with the Aquarian energy: see link. 

December 16th: So far in the last two days we have had 25 M-class flares, which is extremely rare, and 17 C-class flares. I believe that in the whole of 2018 the number of M-class flares were in single figures, so this is a massive increase. These solar flares work on an exponential scale, so M-class flares are 10 times the strength of a C-class, and X-class 10 times the strength of an M-class. These are likely to continue as the Earth has only just begun to enter the Galactic Current Sheet in the cosmos, and we will be passing through the Photon Belt for another 2,000 years. Although often disruptive to sleep, they are bringing new information to our consciousness and therefore helping our evolution.

Throughout December Twitter has been extremely active in releasing information, and this is linked to Mars being retrograde in Gemini (social media and also linked to feathered birds=Twitter) throughout the month. The retrograde motion of Mars is ‘going back over’ things that the mainstream media may have missed and bringing them to the attention of the public. This will continue I believe, even after Mars moves direct on January 12th. 

January 2023

2023 will be a huge turning point for humanity. This is the beginning of the second decade from 2012 to 2032, and although there will be much collapse, it is also a decade of building New Earth more visibly.

At times it will be very chaotic at the 3D level as systems break down, and it will be a fast moving year particularly after January 22nd when Uranus moves direct, and all planets are then direct from that point until May. This can be excellent for getting things achieved as we have a lot of initiatory energy through January until May while Jupiter is in Aries. Think only forwards to what you want to create, try not to look back at the collapsing scenery. Unplug from mainstream society as fully as you are able to, and find the hero within yourself. 

Some very unlikely people of high integrity are stepping into the hero archetype right now in order to serve humanity and they will become increasingly apparent in the coming weeks.

2023 is more complex in energy, less ‘monotone’, it’s a much bigger year of transition as we have some important planets changing signs as well as the Nodal Axis in July from Taurus/Scorpio to Aries/Libra. My strong sense is that we are on much more individual timelines going forwards which we self-select depending on our frequency, although clearly there are two broad collective timelines determined by love, and fear. No-one forces us onto either of these, it is down to us which one we choose. I suggest you choose love – which means staying out of fear, whatever appears to be unfolding in our 3D world. 2023 is a training and testing ground for our mastery, how consistently can we hold this note of ‘love’ in our lives. The more we can do that the more smoothly we will navigate 2023. Remember the flying analogy: the higher the altitude (frequency) the easier the ride. 

If we focus on our outer world there are so many dramatic and distracting events to deal with, but if we focus on our inner world and love then life starts to become simpler. Just keep coming back to love in your life, as far as you are able to.

For now, know that 2023 will have a much clearer sense of endings and new beginnings, particularly new beginnings as that is where the astrological energy is focused.

We begin the month with a tight conjunction of Venus and Pluto at 28°and 27° Capricorn respectively. This can suggest either intense feelings around relationships especially if this is falling in your 5th or 7th houses, linked to issues of control, jealousy, or possessiveness. The tension in this case is likely to be around security versus freedom. Or it may manifest, especially if it falls in your 5th house, to be an intense karmic meeting that brings up strong feelings of love for you. On a more general level, we could see turbulence in currency markets (Venus) and a fundamental change in these; this also relates to an ongoing deep change in values that all of us have been experiencing with Uranus in Taurus until 2026.

January is a fiesty month, no doubt. We begin on the 1st with a semi-square between Mars and Eris. Mars is strong here as it is still retrograde until January 12th and it remains ‘out of bounds’, beyond the normal 23° of latitude north or south of the Ecliptic, until May. It is therefore more likely to express in an extreme or out of control way over these months. That may exaggerate any aggressive energy in the world, so try personally to stay in peace to defuse some of this. Every one of us counts in changing the timelines.

Eris is sometimes referred to as the sister of Mars as it has the same warrior-like energy, taking the symbolism to the collective in terms of everyone needing to be heard and included in society, no exceptions. So demands for more equality and social inclusion are likely to be loud at this time, particularly as the Moon (the people) is conjunct Uranus that day too, planet of revolution and rebellion. Uranus is also very strong during January as we will see, and the sign it rules, Aquarius, will dominate much of 2023.

In addition, as we enter 2023 we have a very tight semi-square between Jupiter and Uranus. Both of these planets are linked to freedom, truth, the future, higher mind/consciousness, space travel, and justice. These themes will all be very strong in 2023, and they both support the mega-themes of human and civil rights.

Not only is Jupiter still on the World Axis here, but so is Uranus as it is at 15° Taurus and any planet at 15° of the Fixed signs is in semi-square (45°) to 0° Aries. Remember that 0° of any Cardinal sign (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) is considered to be the World Axis, therefore planetary symbolism highlighted around this time will be pushed onto the public stage in a bigger way.

Highlighting Uranus further, it remains conjunct the North Node through January, emphasising that truth, freedom, and human rights are the focal point for our future collective destiny and must be honoured. At the Full Moon in Cancer that we will discuss in a moment, the Sun is also quincunx Uranus, repeating these themes again.

So we have a Full Moon at 16°21’ Cancer on January 6th at 3.07pm PST and 11.07pm UK time. See where this falls in your chart and observe what is coming to closure, completion, or culmination at this time or what is being revealed that you were unaware of before.

As I mentioned in the last newsletter we have 5 New Moons from November 2022 to March 2023 at 1° of their sign strongly suggesting a time of new beginnings, and 7 Full Moons at 16° of their sign from October 2022 to April 2023. This is strong ‘seven-ness’. 7 Full Moons, and by numerology if you add 16°=7, and if you add the numbers making up 2023 (2+0+2+3=7). Seven is linked to not only leadership and independence, a strong theme in 2023, but also the scientist and the mystic. That theme is reinforced strongly when Saturn moves into Pisces which we will discuss in the March newsletter.

The 7 Full Moons at 16° of their sign are echoing the 16th card in the Tarot, which is the Tower. We are most certainly at a Tower moment in humanity’s evolution.

Jupiter remains in Aries until May, and this is ruled by Mars the warrior. So as Jupiter expands wherever it is in a chart, this may expand any warring energy in the world, and of course there are those in society who want this to happen. For instance last time Jupiter was in Aries in 2011 we saw the eruption of the Arab Spring. Given the current wars occurring right now, I would strongly suggest that we stay in peace in our hearts as far as we are able.

However in a positive expression Jupiter is about our courage, our bravery, taking a risk, being independent and focused, and SOVEREIGNTY is a huge theme here, also supported by strong Mars and Uranus. As it is the beginning of a major 12 year cycle of moving through all of the signs from now on and is strongly initiatory energy, who is the new you that you would like to create? What state of being do you want to experience this year?

We are a magnificent force when we come together as humanity, have no doubt of that. We are the pioneers, the foot soldiers, the ground crew of New Earth. Be aware of that honour, feel incredibly proud that despite the assaults you have reached the top of the first mountain, and give yourself a huge pat on the back for having come this far. It has not been easy for any of us. With all this strong leadership energy in the astrology, can you be a leader in your own life, whatever your title or role? Can you shine your light more strongly, seeing yourself as a lighthouse that remains rock solid through the storms and raging seas, offering sanctuary for those in distress?

Given the strong Mars/Jupiter/Uranus energy this year all supporting individuality, independence and freedom, rather than feeling that your life is determined by the astrology ASK WHAT DO I WANT 2023 TO BE ABOUT? WHAT DO I WANT TO CREATE IN THE WORLD, WHATEVER IS HAPPENING TO THE PLANETS? Remember that the astrological patterning gives us the sheet of music, the modelling clay, but what is most important is what we as individual do with it.

I keep getting the image from the Indiana Jones movie where the world is collapsing behind him, there is no going back, and he has to cross a crevasse but the bridge will only appear, one step at a time, if he trusts that it will. This is also a big theme for 2023 as we are building a totally new world from here on that we have never experienced before and leaving the old crumbling systems behind. Trust the invisible and trust love, and the right people, places and circumstances will be drawn to us to help to build the grid of light more strongly across the world.

Jupiter in Aries for the first five months of the year also supports more military (Aries) activity in the world, and remember this could be for a very positive reason to protect the people in various geographies, and it may also manifest as military courts and justice (Jupiter). It will feel speedy through these months, especially from January 22nd onwards.

This Full Moon is in Cancer, the sign ruled by the Moon. Full Moons tend to bring feelings to a head and the sign of Cancer is extremely sensitive. So you may be feeling protective of yourself, your family and your loved ones at this time, that you want to hunker down and feel safe and secure. It has a strong nurturing energy for anyone in need, and great compassion. As well as our emotional sense of security we may be very aware of our practical security needs with the Sun in Capricorn. Are we well provisioned especially in the Northern hemisphere entering the winter? This Full Moon has a T-square to Chiron at 12° Aries, suggesting that we may be taking care of many people who are not well at this time, but this is also highlighting healing solutions as Chiron has recently moved direct.

Adding to the fiesty energy, Pluto remains in its long-term square to Eris in Aries, demanding greater equality for all, and Mars at 8°21’ Gemini is very tightly conjunct the Uranus in the US chart at 8°55’ Gemini, ruling the 3rd house in that chart (set for 4th July 1776 17.10 Philadelphia). With both Gemini the 3rd sign and the 3rd house being highlighted, here we have the potential for communication and in particular the media being highlighted. Mars is stirring up much around this right now, and it is so literal that it is in Gemini, the sign linked to birds, with Twitter’s revelations which will no doubt continue, uncovering the silence and censorship by the media on many very important topics. Revelations and disclosures will continue all through 2023 and create much awakening (Uranus) in the world. The Mars-Uranus combination here is quite explosive and can suggest sudden events or shocking truths coming to light.

The focus on the US is also suggested by the Full Moon at 16° Cancer being conjunct the Sun in the US chart. What is being revealed at this time in the light of the Full Moon? I also understand that January 6th is an important day for the Supreme Court in its rulings. Remember that whatever unfolds in the US will ripple across the world, and we are right in the Pluto return process for the US when transiting Pluto comes back to its 1776 ‘natal’ position. This will continue as a process of complete transformation for the next two years as I have spoken about many times. It also colours how Pluto in Aquarius plays out for the next 22 years.

We have some very strong energy days after this Full Moon until around January 15th. Eris, the warrior goddess, becomes stationary direct on the 11th and her warrior sister Mars becomes stationary direct the next day, the 12th. So for a few days either side of these ‘fighting’ energies we may see them play out in the world in a bigger way. Try to use them for courage, bravery and sovereignty in a positive way. Whenever we use the symbolism positively there is less energy for it to manifest negatively in the world. It is interesting to note that this is the same day (January 12th) that the powerful Saturn-Pluto conjunction occurred in 2020 that began the series of events that we are very familiar with. Will this Mars station bring some new aspect, or even some anger around these?

When all this outer activity becomes too much, always pull back to your heart, to your breath, and to stillness as often as you can. That will always be your antidote. What will help us beautifully with this is that Chariklo at 7° Aquarius is conjunct Venus at this Full Moon. Remember that Chariklo’s symbolism is around being able to heal simply by her state of being, holding sacred space, representing the Buddhist eternal state of stillness and ‘ground of being’ that is always there for us. Chariklo is present at shifts from life to death as a soul midwife but also holds us steady as we rapidly shift in levels of consciousness. This will increase our ability to hold compassion for anyone in need.

Also remember that whenever you express gratitude through your days, or meditate, feel love, say ‘for the highest good of all’ and that will help not only to build upon the established grid of light around the Earth, but anchor you within it as a vital part of New Earth.

The second half of January has even stronger energy. On the 14th, the Sun is square to Eris, just three days after Eris became stationary direct. The same day Venus is square to Uranus, which could see some financial or currency turbulence, but the combination of these aspects increases rebellious behaviour in people, especially where issues around freedom come to the fore.

On the 18th, Mercury stations direct at 8° Capricorn. This leaves only Uranus  to move direct which it does on January 22nd, within hours of the New Moon in Aquarius on the 21st. Therefore a few days to either side of the 22nd we will feel an uptick in rebellious behaviour again. Not only that, but Uranus continues to be on the World Axis at 14°56’ Taurus (15°of the Fixed signs=World Axis as these points are 45°, ie in hard aspect, to 0° Cardinals). This strengthens Uranus’s symbolism of rebellion, truth and awakening even more. All planets will now be moving direct until May 2nd when Pluto moves direct, so there will be a much greater sense of momentum from now on. Also on the 18th, the Sun is exactly conjunct Pluto, shining a light on the nature of power both for yourself and in the world. How have you used your power in the world, or not? Have you given it away? Have you used it for the greater good, service to others, or principally service to self? Pluto’s symbolism always works best when expressed altruistically.

The Uranian energy is reinforced by the New Moon at 1°32’ Aquarius, the sign which Uranus rules. This is exact at 12.53pm PST and 8.53pm UK time. This is the third New Moon in a row of five at 1° of its sign, emphasising the new beginning into which the Earth is moving. See where this is falling in your chart and don’t forget to set a new intention for what you would like to manifest in your life with this new seed. This is actually a SuperMoon as the Moon is very close to the Earth in its orbit, increasing the effect of the prevailing symbolism.

This New Moon has five planets in Fixed signs; the Sun, Moon, Venus and Saturn in Aquarius and Uranus in Taurus. Therefore determination will be strong at this time, as well as the desire to hold any fixed position or views we may have. The phrase ‘standing our ground’ comes to mind. Even though we have only one planet in a Water sign here, feelings will be intense as Pluto is in an out of sign conjunction with the Sun and Moon at 28°20’ Capricorn. The Moon is conjunct Pluto just a few hours before this New Moon, so what are we likely to be feeling intense about? With Aquarius as the sign of freedom and truth, these issues are likely to loom large with the repression of top-down authority (Pluto in Capricorn) continuing to be felt. There could be greater attempts at controlling populations which will be strongly resisted by the people – increasingly as we move through 2023.

Pluto is almost at the anaretic degree, the very last degree of Capricorn, emphasising the ending of the old world and systems, whereas the New Moon at 1° Aquarius is representing the surge towards the new, the future, freedom, more independence, stepping into a new episode for humanity, especially as Pluto will begin its giant move into Aquarius in March. This big theme of endings and beginnings will continue until December 2024, but will be very apparent though 2023. Remember that the astrological energy is moving towards the new and away from the old world. I’d suggest that each of us does the same with our energy, and don’t fight where evolution is wanting to take us. 

This New SuperMoon is within 1° of 0° Aquarius, where we had the powerful Great Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn on December 21st 2020 that began a new 200 year cycle of this 20 year repeating conjunction in Air signs. This is a powerful signal for a whole new episode for humanity moving away from the last 200 years of this conjunction in Earth signs, linked to heavy industry, fossil fuels, big banking, territorial materialism, being defined by your wealth and title=status, long term home ownership: generally an age of density and materialism. We are now moving into an era which is lighter, faster, more community and collaboratively based, where on the one hand we will have a clearer sense of our own unique purpose but also want to share together with others, make our individual contribution. 

Pluto will also be crossing this degree 5 times from March 2023 to December 2024, and will activate this new age of New Earth strongly. This New SuperMoon may give us the first glimpse of some of the themes that are likely to unfold during that time. Feel open, heart centred, loving and welcoming in possibilities into your life that may have felt impossible before our consciousness shifted to these new levels. Our consciousness will continue to make these jumps in the coming months, particularly around March 2023.

Jupiter at 4° Aries is sextile this New Moon, increasing the need for individual rights and independence. We may see important court cases in the public eye from the second half of January onwards (Jupiter). The whole theme of human rights and freedoms (Aquarius) will be strong all of 2023. Jupiter in Aries is impatient, intolerant of much more delay with these being delivered to the people. The clear message here is also about bringing in an expanded consciousness with a sense of group responsibility. Aquarius energy is rather paradoxical in that it is about bringing more of your individual essence to the fore, while at the same time making you aware of your unique contribution to the group. Community and collaboration will be huge themes from now on in terms of where society is headed.

Very positively the New Moon is also sextile the dwarf planet Manwe that I wrote about in the last newsletter, as a powerful symbol for New Earth and bringing more light to our world.

Jupiter is conjunct the dwarf planet Salacia at 6° Aries, expanding and enlarging her energy in our world. Salacia in myth is the wife of Neptune and related to the shimmering sunlight and moonlight on the seas. To me she represents photonic light, that brilliant white sparkling diamond light that we can see more clearly in our world today. This is a major accelerator of our evolution as it is very high frequency energy. One of the big shifts in 2023 will be the greater understanding that everything is energy and frequency in our universe.

There is an exact quincunx by degree between Mercury at 8° Capricorn and Mars at 8° Gemini. I mention the importance of 8° Gemini earlier in this newsletter, particularly with regard to Mars’ conjunction to the US Uranus which rules the 3rd house of media in the US chart. With Mercury in this quincunx in Capricorn we are likely to see an strong government (Capricorn) narrative countering whatever explosive or shocking facts are spilling out on social media (Gemini), especially the social platform Twitter. People are likely to be feeling not only intense but expressing frustration and even anger (Mars) about this, one way or another. Remember that Mars remains ‘out of bounds’ until May so is likely to express powerfully and in an ‘out of control’ way potentially. 

However what is beautiful here is that Mercury is conjunct the dwarf planet Quaoar. The symbolism of Quaoar, linked to the Creator god of the Tongva people who originally inhabited the Los Angeles basin, is that we cannot create anything beautiful from chaos. We have to rise above it and raise our vibration with song and dance to then manifest something much better for our world, we create only from joy. This is such a clear archetypal understanding of energy and frequency, so this is the message here.

Venus at 23°Aquarius is tightly conjunct Saturn at 24° Aquarius. This can manifest in relationships especially if it is falling in your 5th or 7th houses as a clash between control which represents security, and freedom and independence. It can also suggest some financial controls coming in, particularly in the digital world (Aquarius).

On January 23rd, we have a Moon-Mars square at the same time as Mars in semi-square to Eris. Both of these aspects can be angry and fiesty, the people demanding more of a voice in society. Then on the 27th the Moon comes to conjunct Eris and square Pluto, and the expression of this is likely to be similar. However the momentum of all planets moving direct until May is going to change the ‘stuckness’ or sense of intractability we have had in this old world-new world for the last 3 years. The incredible cosmic and galactic energy as well as the photonic light is ensuring that, and they are all unstoppable. Trust in the invisible.

It is of great importance that we stay out of fear and remain positive at all times. If we go into fear we are putting a brake onto the evolution of humanity. This evolution is inevitable, but the collective via their consciousness can speed that up or slow it down; so we have a social responsibility to accelerate the arrival of New Earth the frequency of which is already established in the light grids. Will you feel proud of your role in this when you look back? Jupiter in Aries is helping us step into our power and our mastery.

People often ask me, ‘so what would New Earth look like?’ Although the answer to that is that WE are creating it in every moment, I came across a beautiful website this week with exquisite photography that inspires us with a vision of how we can start to move towards this, especially involving nature. Once you download a free birthchart from my website, you can start to use the tutorial videos straight away. There is a description that comes with the chart on the website (which I did not write), and people have said this is very accurate. However, please remember that a computer- generated description with a list of characteristics is a very different experience to having a full consultation with a professional astrologer, 

who through synthesising this matrix of meaning, can give you profound insights into who you truly are.

I am going to post the planetary positions each month. I will not include the Sun and Moon as they move too quickly, but will post the others so you can work out the transits to your natal chart: 

Mercury – 23° – 16° Capricorn, direct on the 18th
Venus – 28° Capricorn – 5° Pisces

Mars – 8°- 10° Gemini, direct on the 12th
 Jupiter – 1° – 6° Aries

Saturn – 22° – 25° Aquarius 

Uranus – 15° – 14° Taurus, direct on the 22nd 

Neptune – 22° – 23°  Pisces

Pluto – 27° – 28° Capricorn 

North Node, always retrograde – 11° – 8° Taurus 

Chiron – 11° – 12° Aries 

Chariklo – 7°02’ Aquarius
